How to Visit Pantanal? What to bring?

Are you  planing to visit Pantanal in Brazil?  You don’t know where and how to start it. I can help you with some information about the best ways how to do it.

The first thing you have to know is. The main entrance to the Pantanal is through Cuiaba. It is the capital of the state of Mato Grosso is only a hundread kilometres away fro the beginning of the Transpantaneira dirt road. Besides doing a tour in Pantanal, you can also visit Chapada dos Guimaraes and Nobres.

After your arrival in Cuiaba, I would advice you to take a hotel for the first night in the Cuiaba, and Start you tour early on the nex day, early morning after your breakfast. Your tour agency might pick you up at 08:00 am, and drive you to your lodge in Pantanal. You will arrive there before lunch.

Transpantaneira Park Road begins in Pocone and is surrounded by eco lodges, I would advice you to stay in two or three different farms. Because You will have the chance to visit multiple biomas with different wildlife in the same trip.

From my experiences of 20 years guiding in Pantanal, I noticed that one day in each lodge is maybe too short and stressful because when you just arrive and want to relax, you have to pack everything again on the next day to move further to the next lodge. So I would say two days are good, three days are wonderful.

What to Bring?

Pantanal is usually very hot all year ruound, but it can turn cold suddenly in the months of june, july and august. I recommend to bring quick drying clothes, hat, sun cream, insect repellent, but also pullovers during this months. And for other months don’t forger to bring a raincoat.

When you pass by Pocone you can buy some 5 litters gallons of water that you can leave in the room and a small bottle of water for your the tour, so you can always fill you little bottles. But don’t warry about that, at the lodges they are selling all kind of drinks.

Astonishing how much Rizardo knows about the beautiful nature in the Pantanal. We really liked the tours! He is a guide with a passion for his job.
